A Great Cause

This Shabbat, after school on Friday we drove to Afula which is the 'sister city' of Worcester MA! We met up with our friend Itai and his family - he is about to start his army service in 2 more weeks.

We went to have dinner at the Afula Emunah Youth Center, a center for children who have been placed there by Israel's social services because they have very bad problems with their families. About 200 kids live there and another 200 come for the day to use the services, but sleep at home with family.  Kids come from all different backgrounds, nationalities, level of religious observance.  We met up with our friend Shlomo and I played with his son Eitan, my age, who speaks perfect English.

They do so many wonderful things to help the kids there feel safe and loved! The Shabbat services were short and fun, and dinner was nice. There was a lot of joy all around.

This is a fantastic place - please see its website http://emunahafula.org/ and consider making donations b/c what it receives from the government to take care of the kids is not anywhere near enough!
